Cape Town Mayor Gerordin Hill-Lewis has delivered a clear statement that nobody is considered to be above the law.

In the last month alone, Cape Town’s traffic police and law enforcers have been hot on the heels of motorists who have openly ignored some of the rules of the roads while putting the lives of fellow road users at risk.

Earlier this week, a viral video circulated on social media, showing traffic officials getting into a verbal dispute with a taxi driver who ignored the rules and drove in the yellow lane on the N2 highway. This later resulted in a physical scuffle.

Meanwhile, another incident took place in the coastal community of Sea Point, where video footage showed a Nigerian rapper speed down a residential community and crashed his McLaren sports car while sustaining injuries in the process.

In a recent post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the Mayor highlighted just how serious they were about maintaining law and order when he shared that a Bentley had been impounded for driving without a number plate.

According to one X-user, the car is driven by a man in his early 20s who is said to have driven the vehicle recklessly despite the car being relatively new. It is also said that the owner continues to disobey the rules of the road and continuously parks the vehicle on the sidewalk despite receiving numerous fines.

“They throw the fine in the street, goes out and park on the sidewalk again. They either don’t pay or they don’t mind paying R1000 every day. Brand new car and almost every panel has been scratched or dented. Rules don’t seem to apply to them,” wrote the user.

Taking to the social media platform the mayor posted a follow-up post, revealing that the car was impounded, along with a message.

“Don’t ignore the law. You will be caught.”
