Nicki Minaj, the renowned rapper behind hits like Super Bass, finds herself in legal trouble.
A former manager, Brandon Garrett, has filed a lawsuit against her, accusing her of assault, battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
CLAIMS AGAINST NICKI MINAJ
The alleged incident reportedly occurred during her Pink Friday 2 world tour in April 2024.
According to Garrett, the altercation took place after a concert in Detroit. He claims Nicki summoned him to her dressing room, where she was surrounded by her team.
In the lawsuit, Garrett states that Nicki Minaj confronted him about delegating a task.
Specifically, he had sent someone else to collect her prescription. Garrett alleges that Nicki erupted in anger, shouting, “Are you fing crazy having him pick up my prescription?
You’ve lost your fing mind!” She allegedly added, “If my husband were here, he’d knock out your teeth. You’re a dead man walking.”
NICKI MINAJ’S ALLEGED BEHAVIOUR
The confrontation reportedly escalated when Nicki slapped Garrett on the right side of his face, according to Pink Villa.
He claims the blow caused his head to snap back, sending his hat flying.
Nicki Minaj’s security team allegedly moved closer after the slap. Garrett also accuses her of hitting his wrist, causing documents he was holding to fall to the floor.
Garrett says Nicki ordered him out of the room, yelling, “Get the out.”
THE LAWSUIT
He fled to a restroom in Detroit’s Little Caesars Arena and locked himself inside for hours. Garrett recalls, “My face was sore, and my wrist was throbbing. I was terrified.”
Adding to the ordeal, Garrett claims Nicki’s team abandoned him in Detroit, according to Hype Beast.
He was not allowed back on the tour bus to Chicago, leaving him stranded without support. He says the experience was emotionally and physically distressing, prompting his decision to sue.
The lawsuit, filed by high-profile attorney Thomas Feher, seeks damages from Nicki for assault and emotional harm.
NICKI MINAJ’S TEAM DENIES ALLEGATIONS
Garrett describes the incident as life-altering, saying, “She made it clear she wanted to ruin my life.”
Nicki Minaj’s legal team, led by Judd Burstein, has denied the allegations.
In a statement, Burstein said, “At this time, they have not served any complaint upon Mrs Petty (Nicki’s married name).”
Therefore, we are unaware of the specific allegations.
However, if the lawsuit is as reported, it is completely false and frivolous. We are confident this matter will be resolved swiftly in Mrs Petty’s favour.”
SOUTH AFRICA REACTS
South African fans have taken to social media to discuss the case.
Some are questioning the credibility of the claims, while others express concern over the alleged behaviour.
A fan tweeted, “Whether true or not, this is a bad look for Nicki.” Another added, “We love Nicki, but no one is above the law.”
DAMAGES FOR THE CASE
If Garrett’s claims hold up in court, it could cost Nicki Minaj millions. Legal experts estimate the damages could amount to tens of millions of rands, according to The Print.
For now, the rap superstar remains focused on her tour and upcoming projects.
The case adds another chapter to Nicki’s already eventful career. Fans and critics alike will be watching closely to see how this drama unfolds.
