Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro is continuing to develop new players for the senior team.

AZOLA TSHOBENI WITH ORLANDO PIRATES FIRST TEAM

In one of the training sessions in the past week, the 22-year-old attacking midfielder Azola Tshobeni was spotted with the Buccaneers senior team.

Formerly Orlando Pirates’ reserve team superstar, the left-footed Tshobeni, has spent the past three seasons on loan at JDR Stars in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

It remains to be seen when coach Riveiro will decide to name Tshobeni in the senior team matchday squad.

The Spaniard famously made Relebohile Mofokeng train with the first team for an entire season before giving him his debut on the final match of the season in May 2023 against Royal AM at the Orlando Stadium.

In other news, the Soweto giants are linked with a Zimbabwean winger.

ORLANDO PIRATES STAR DEANO VAN ROOYEN INJURED

Orlando Pirates are flying high right now after a wonderful start: five victories out of five matches so far this season. Up next for the Buccaneers is TS Galaxy in Mpumalanga, but without Deano Van Rooyen at the back.

During last Friday’s 2-1 win over AmaZulu, the former Stellenbosch FC star was forced out after suffering what appeared as a hamstring injury. Orlando Pirates have since confirmed that Van Rooyen will miss Tuesday night’s trip to TS Galaxy.

“Right back Deano van Rooyen is a fresh injury concern for Pirates after he had to withdraw early against Usuthu,” the club reported.

“The 27-year-old was replaced by Paseka Mako in the first half and his potential absence could mean an opportunity for the likes of Thabiso Monyane and Bandile Shandu,” concluded Orlando Pirates.

WHO SHOULD REPLACE DEANO VAN ROOYEN AT RIGHT-BACK?
