  • EFF’s Mbuyiseni Ndlozi was not seen at the party’s big conference on Friday morning with claims he was banned from attending.
  • The party has lost support as members leave for the MK Party, including former deputy leader Floyd Shivambu.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) secretary-general, Marshall Dlamini, has refused to comment on MP Mbuyiseni Ndlozi’s absence from the party’s Third National People’s Assembly at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg.

Although Ndlozi is a member in good standing, he did not appear at the conference on Friday morning. His absence has prompted claims that he was banned from attending and blocked from running in the party’s leadership elections.

Dlamini confirmed that Ndlozi would not be contesting any positions.

“We respect that. We are not going to reduce this conference to an individual; no one is bigger than the EFF,” he said.

“We are not going to entertain that. Everyone knows what is expected of them.”

Many EFF members thought Ndlozi would step into Floyd Shivambu’s shoes after he left to join the MK Party.

Dlamini hopes to retain his position as secretary-general after being nominated again.

The party’s Central Command Team (CCT) will report on how the EFF has performed over the past five years.

“We will report the honest reflection of the EFF in the last five years: challenges, victories and mistakes, without hiding them by sweeping them under the carpet,” Dlamini said.

The EFF has lost support since May, receiving 9.62% of votes, down from 10.8% in the 2019 national elections.

Many members, including former deputy leader and co-founder Floyd Shivambu, have left to join the MK Party.
