Are you dealing with the unwanted feeling of having an uneven skin tone? Now is the time to counter the problem.

Having an uneven skin tone is something that many people dread. This is because the inconsistency of one’s complexion often leaves you feeling unattractive and can affect one’s level of confidence when entering public spaces.

The skincare brand Colore Science explains that an uneven skin tone is often characterised by both skin discoloration and a change in skin texture.

“The affected skin is usually visibly distinct from the surrounding areas and can have dark patterns or markings of different colouring, or you might see a rough or spotty texture,” explains the above-mentioned skincare source.

While many of us often have an ideal vision of how we would like our skin to look, the skincare brand further notes that there is no such thing as perfect skin.

“Try as you might, your rosy cheeks, red-tipped nose, hollowed eyes, and shaded hairline will forever stand in the way of one universal hue – and that’s a good thing! A little color adds shape and dimension to your complexion, whether it’s achieved naturally or through the use of everyday cosmetics.”

However, it is noted that one thing that is not normal is when the skin tone begins presenting itself in blotchy patches or dark spots known as “hyperpigmentation.”

This is known to come in various forms, such as:

  • Affects the entire body

According to the reputable health and wellness publication Healthline, it is influenced by factors like sun exposure, certain medications, pregnancy, and health conditions.

Having uneven skin does not always mean that it is permanent. Fortunately, there are several natural remedies you can use to counter its effects.

Here are a few as recommended by Skinbase:

  • Lemon Juice: Lemon juice contains vitamin c which plays an important part in brightening skin. The citric properties of the lemon juice also acts as the perfect exfoliator for removing dead cells.
  • Aloe Vera: Similar to lemon juice aloe vera plants contain enzymes that helps to remove dead skin cells and brightens skin.
  • Tumeric: Tumeric contains curcumin, which can help lighten dark spots, minimise melanin production, and even out skin tone.
