Nasreddine Nabi rejects Tunisia job to stay committed to Kaizer Chiefs. Here is the latest.
Chiefs head coach has reaffirmed his commitment to Amakhosi by turning down an offer to lead the Tunisian National Team. Despite a challenging start to his tenure with the Soweto giants, Nabi remains focused on revitalizing the club and ending their near-decade-long trophy drought.
Nabi chooses Amakhosi over Tunisia
Since joining Kaizer Chiefs at the start of the season, Nabi has been on a mission to restore the club’s former glory. The Tunisian tactician left AS FAR Rabat after just one season to take on the challenge in South Africa, having been on Chiefs’ radar since his successful spell with Young Africans in Tanzania.
With Tunisia preparing for the upcoming AFCON in Morocco, the national team approached Nabi with an opportunity to lead his home country. However, he made it clear that his loyalty lies with Amakhosi.
“I’d like to say thank you to Dr. Kaizer Motaung, to Kaizer Jr, Bobby Motaung, and the entire management,” said Nabi after Chiefs’ 1-0 league victory over Stellenbosch FC in Cape Town. “I have been offered an opportunity to coach my country, and we [Chiefs management] have sat together and decided that I’m going to pass this big opportunity to coach my mother country. But I feel it’s an honor to be here, and I say thank you to everyone and the management.”
Crucial win against Stellenbosch
Nabi’s commitment was further reinforced as Kaizer Chiefs secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over Stellies. The victory marked their second league triumph over Steve Barker’s team this season, having beaten them 2-1 in the first round.
“I’m very happy with the performance today and for the three points,” said Nabi. “It’s not easy to beat a team like Stellenbosch twice in a short period. They are a very good team with a solid coaching staff. Winning in Cape Town is never easy, so we’re very happy with the result.”
With Nabi fully focused on his role at Kaizer Chiefs, the club’s supporters will hope that his dedication translates into much-needed success. As the team continues its journey this season, all eyes will be on whether Nabi can lead them back to their winning ways and end their trophy drought.
