Tito Mboweni’s tombstone sparked conversation on social media as people praised the simplicity of the design.
The former Minister of Finance and first black Reserve Bank Governor was buried in a state funeral on Saturday, 19 October, in Tzaneen, Limpopo.
He was laid to rest at the Mboweni family cemetery at Bhodweni Village in Limpopo.
A photo of the tombstone went viral as it depicted Mboweni’s lifestyle when he was alive.
“I was expecting a dramatic white tombstone, currency note with his signature, and a parliament building,” a Twitter user wrote.
Another user wrote, “Really.. this tomb looks like its on the cheap side!”
“Glad they captured his real lifestyle , he didn’t like flashy and showing off,” a comment read.
Not too flashy just a decent tombstone, it definitely personifies who he was.
