‘My side of the story’

Shaun Mkhize, also known as MaMkhize, has broken her silence on social media amid her tax woes, which have cost her much of her assets, including the PSL club Royal AM. The businesswoman and reality TV star is accused of SARS evading over R40 million in unpaid taxes.

She has been previously charged with alleged criminal activity, including fraud, forgery, bribery, and tax evasion.

MAMKHIZE BREAKS SILENCE

In an Instagram Story on Monday, 31 March, MaMkhize broke her silence on her financial saga.

Posting a picture of herself in her luxury home, she posted: “My side of the story doesn’t matter anymore. Life happened. It hurt; I healed.

Hinting that her circle friends have seemingly abandoned her, she added: “But most importantly, I learned who deserves a seat at my table and who will never sit again.”

The post is the first time since January that MaMkhize has publicly spoken about her tax drama. In a statement earlier this year, the Royal AM boss apologised to players over reports of their non-payment. It also revealed that the club was under curatorship and was navigating the way forward.

According to Sunday World, MaMkhize’s La Lucia home – which she shared with ex-husband Sbu Mpisane – was raided by police in December.

The publication claims that during the raid, police found dozens of high-calibre rifles and ammunition.

Police raided the businesswoman’s other properties, including one in Sandhurst, Johannesburg, a farm, and a four-story mansion in Pietermaritzburg.

On the X app, South Africans were unsurprised by the discoveries, given that MaMkhize’s name trended a few months earlier after the alleged assassination attempt of a SARS advocate who was investigating her.

WHO HAS BOUGHT ROYAL AM?

This month, MaMkhize’s Royal AM – previously called Bloemfontein Celtics – was officially placed on the market.

The sale of the club has attracted several high-profile bidders, including Durban businessman Roy Moodley and his son Mageshpren Moodley.

The deal hit a snag when Royal AM curator Jaco Venter claimed that the father and son’s company, Global Investments, failed to deposit the agreed-upon sum into the trust account by last week’s deadline.

Roy has reportedly denied the allegations, claiming that the sellers were “not forthcoming” about the PSL club.

According to eNCA, Royal AM is reportedly back on the market.
