More rainfall and thunderstorms predicted in Gauteng on Monday

The South African Weather Service has forecasted increased rainfall across Gauteng from Sunday to Tuesday.

Showers and thundershowers are anticipated in the province from the afternoon into the evening. The Weather Service has warned that heavy rain could lead to power outages and flash floods in certain areas.

On Monday, temperatures in Johannesburg and Pretoria are expected to fall to the high teens and low 20s, with a 60% chance of rain.

Temperatures are expected to improve from Wednesday with some regions reaching a high of 25°C.

According to Vox Weather, more than 50mm of rain is possible over parts of Gauteng by Monday evening.

In KwaZulu-Natal, a Level 4 warning was issued by the SA Weather Service.

The province is expected to experience severe thunderstorms, which may include strong damaging winds, excessive lightning, large hail, and heavy downpours.

“Models are indicating significant amounts of rain in excess of 40mm in places on Sunday that will result in flooding. Significant impacts may be expected considering the impacts expected with Saturday storms,” the weather service said regarding the heavy rainfall.
