More Durban beaches closed ahead of school holidays

eThekwini Municipality updates status on beaches and pools

The eThekwini Municipality has released updated information regarding which Durban beaches and public pools are safe for swimming.

According to the municipality, as of 13 March, there are currently five beaches closed for swimming due to poor water quality, and 18 that are open and regarded as safe for swimming.

These five closed Durban beaches are:

  • Country Club,
  • Thekwini Beach,
  • Laguna Beach,
  • Reunion, and
  • Doonside Beach.

“This status of beaches and pools will be updated as and when their status changes. You can still enjoy other recreational activities at closed beaches. You just can’t swim.” the municipality said.

Open beaches in Durban this March/April

The following 18 beaches in Durban are currently open for swimming between the hours of 06:00 and 18:30:

  • BRONZE BEACH
  • UMHLANGA MAIN
  • UMGABABA
  • WINKLESPRUIT
  • TOTI MAIN BEACH
  • PIPELINE BEACH
  • WESTBROOK
  • USHAKA
  • ADDINGTON
  • BRIGHTON
  • NORTH BEACH
  • BAY OF PLENTY
  • SOUTH BEACH
  • BATTERY BEACH
  • ANSTEY’S BEACH
  • WEDGE BEACH

Open public swimming pools

In addition to the open beach updates, eThekwini Municipality also updated their open pool status, revealing that there are now 40 swimming pools across Durban open to the public. These are:

  • STANMORE
  • RAINHAM
  • NTUZUMA E
  • KWAMASHU G
  • DURBAN NORTH

Swimming pools are open from 6:00 to 18:00, Monday to Saturday, then from 9:00 to 17:00 on Sundays and public holidays.
