Orlando Pirates have exciting young prospects at the club. Some are installed in the first team, while others are knocking at the door.

Orlando Pirates have big fish to fry

According to Soccer LadumaNeo Mokoena has joined up with the first team in training. He’s unlikely to feature against Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup final, but big things are expected of the teenage winger. He’ll be eager to follow in the footsteps of outstanding 19-year-old central defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi, who’s become a pillar of the Pirates back four.

Mbokazi is a ‘natural leader’, going right to the top

19-year-old central defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi is a superstar in the making. The stylish left-footer has impressed with his strong work ethic and cool, calm composure on the ball. His crisp distribution over short and long distances is a valuable and rare asset from the left side of central defence. Also, they see the physically gifted player as a natural leader and potential long-term partner for Thabiso Sesane in the heart of defence.

Derby Day in the Nedbank Cup final

Chiefs and Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates will play in their ninth meeting in a Nedbank Cup final. The match will kick off at 15:30 on Saturday, 10 May, at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Kaizer Chiefs have cause for optimism

Of the teams’ eight previous meetings in the Nedbank Cup final, Kaizer Chiefs have won six finals – in 1971, 1976, 1977, 1981, 1984 and 2006. Orlando Pirates have managed two wins in 1975 and 1988. A 75% win ratio is a huge reason for Amakhosi fans to be cautiously optimistic.
