Relebohile Mofokeng scored a stunning goal to secure all three points for Orlando Pirates against Magesi FC on Sunday afternoon.

The 22-year-old midfielder struck a low drive that gave the Buccaneers a 1-0 victory at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium. This win allows Pirates to close the gap to log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns to just three points, with a game in hand. Sundowns had defeated Richards Bay 2-0 on Saturday, putting pressure on their rivals.

Mofokeng earns Orlando Pirates another win

Coming into the match, the Sea Robbers needed a victory not only to apply pressure on the Brazilians but also to avenge their earlier loss to Magesi. Dikwena Tsa Meetse had previously eliminated Pirates in the Carling Knockout Cup’s Round of 16 before going on to defeat Sundowns in the final and claim the trophy.

After dominating possession for most of the match, Orlando Pirates scored the opener through Mofokeng in the 45th minute, shortly after Magesi was reduced to 10 men.

In the second half, the Buccaneers created several chances to extend their lead, but poor finishing let them down. Ultimately, the match finished 1-0 in favor of Jose Riveiro’s men.

Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng was voted man of the match following his performance against Magesi.
