Mngqithi exposes Orlando Pirates weakness

Is Mamelodi Sundowns’ manager Manqoba Mngqithi playing mind games against Orlando Pirates or offering some constructive criticism?

If it’s the latter, he believes the Buccaneers lack of squad depth will hinder them towards the tail end of the season.

Mngqithi says it how it is

“I think I said it from the beginning in the launch that for me they are the team that’s going to be really pushing us,” the Sundowns’ manager told FARPost.

“I hope and pray they do have the depth to carry themselves during the group stages and the league because I think that’s where the separation will take place because I do believe they are a very good team.

“They tried to rotate the squad, unfortunately it did not work out very well in the Carling. But honestly speaking I think they are a team that will really pose a lot of problems.

“But I still maintain that they are a team that doesn’t do well against small teams. So far, they have really done well but let’s continue and see because that’s where I think maybe the championship will be decided.”

Is Mngqithi right?

Orlando Pirates are managing superbly in the league while dealing with nine injuries suggesting this to be the season they fight for the title.

And with extra players rumoured to join in January, it seems the Sea Robbers will have all the inventory they need.

Orlando Pirates star told to go to Europe

Former coach and mentor to Relebohile Mofokeng, Mandla Qhogi, believes the rising star should depart Orlando Pirates soon, telling SoccerLaduma, “For me, it will be a good time for him to go overseas. It is the right time and there are things that he would learn if he were to move now at this stage of his career. The more we keep him this side it could mean that we are delaying him. He is 20, and I think it is the right time for him to move if he has to be sold overseas,

“What stands out about him for me is his individual intelligence and game awareness. He knows when to dribble an opponent, and when to pass the ball. He is also very brave when it comes to facing a challenging situation on the field, and he always knows what to do; he’s not afraid of any opponent, irrespective of the size of the body. With his small body structure, he knows how to deal with bigger and physically strong opponents. I have seen him dominating in 1V1 situations with opponents like that. His cleverness in knowing when to take a surprise shot at the goalkeeper and other qualities are some of the things we saw in him and liked”.
