UMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party secretary-general Dr Sifiso Maseko has resigned. He is reportedly set to return to his former position as head of infrastructure development in the Gauteng Department of Health.

Maseko was the MK Party’s fourth secretary-general since the organisation’s launch on 16 December 2023, following Arthur Zwane, Sihle Ngubane, and Thanduxolo “Gorbachev” Dyodo. He served in the position for four months.

SIFISO MASEKO DUMPS MK PARTY

On Wednesday, 6 November, SABC News reported that in a letter to MK Party leader, Jacob Zuma, Maseko expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve as secretary-general and has committed to serving in any capacity including retaining his role as a member of the National High Command.

SUSPENDED WITH FULL PAY

The South African previously reported that Maseko raked in millions while sitting at home, after he was suspended with full pay by the Gauteng Department of Health over two years ago.

Maseko, along with eight other government officials, were suspended between 25 January 2022 and 1 February 2022, after a recommendation by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) report.

The SIU probed irregular procurement of personal protective equipment (PPE) by the GDH during the National State of Disaster from various service providers.

The SIU recommended that disciplinary and criminal action be taken against three GDH officials, which include Maseko (who went by the name Goodhope, not Sifiso, at GDH), and six officials from the Gauteng Department of Infrastructure Development (GDID).
