Missing home? Trevor Noah makes home-made bunny chow

Trevor Noah may be a hotshot Hollywood star, but like many South Africans living abroad, he misses Mzansi – and particularly the food!

In 2011, the Soweto-born star moved to the US, and in 2020, he became a naturalised citizen.

However, the 40-year-old visits home several times a year.

TREVOR NOAH MAKES MAKESHIFT BUNNY CHOW

On his Instagram Stories, Trevor Noah shared an amusing look at him attempting to prepare a typical South African dish – a bunny chow.

Armed with a “skaftin” of what appeared to contain chicken curry, Trevor then revealed his genius next move, placing it in a quarter loaf of unsliced white bread.  The comedian even cut out a hole in the bread, into which he likely placed the curry.

“If you know, you know,” he captioned the images…

Speaking to CondeNast Traveller last year, Trevor Noah revealed he is a big fan of South African curries.

He said: “You have, really, food from all over the world coming together with some of the best spices. Our curries, Cape Malay curries, in particular, are quite special – you won’t find South African curries anywhere else.”

MISSING MORE THAN JUST FOOD

In 2017, Trevor Noah told South Africans during his “There’s a Gupta on My Stoep” tour that he also misses the camaraderie of home.

He said, “I mostly miss the people. You can find the physical landscape in different ways and places, and you can find elements that make the country what it is in different ways all over the world, but the one thing you cannot find is the people.

He added: “I miss our languages. I miss being able to speak Zulu or Tswana to my friends, I miss being able to joke about cultural ideas and things that we only have in this country and things which are unique to South Africa so those are the biggest things that I miss when I’m away.”
