Werner Wessels – the Creative Director behind the Miss South Africa (Miss SA) organisation – has officially resigned. The beauty guru is known for his wealth of knowledge in the pageant sphere.

This includes an impressive track record in helping several beauty queens like Zozi Tunzi, Demi-Leigh Tebow (nee Nel-Peters), and Lalela Mswane, who won the Miss Universe and Miss Supranational titles respectively, during his tenure.

WERNER WESSELS ANNOUNCES HIS RESIGNATION

In a shock announcement on Friday, 24 January, Werner Wessels announced that he would be parting ways with the Miss SA organisation.

He shared in a statement: “This journey has been a dream come true, a journey filled with

purpose, passion, and pride. I’m immensely proud of the work we have done and the impact I’ve made. I will forever be grateful to the Miss South Africa Organisation for entrusting me with the responsibility that comes with this role I created”.

Werner thanked Miss SA contestants, including past winners, who worked alongside him. He also vowed to continue to empower South African women.

He continued: “I have always said I want my career to be a love letter to women, a celebration of their courage, brilliance, and limitless potential. It is a tribute to South African women who, despite challenges, rise above and continue to inspire.

“My love for this beautiful nation and its women, who are brave enough to believe not only in the power of their own dreams but also in the promise and potential of South Africa is at the heart of everything I do.

“While this marks the end of one chapter, it’s also the beginning of a new and exciting one. The best is yet to come, and I can’t wait to share what’s next. The letter continues to be written.”

EMPOWERING SOUTH AFRICAN WOMEN

When it comes to international beauty pageants like Miss World and Miss Universe, South Africa always had the upper hand. And that’s partly thanks to Werner Wessels, who can be credited for two Miss Universe, one Miss World, and one Miss Supranational title wins in his tenure at the organisation.

As his farewell statement mentions, Werner made his childhood dream of working with the Miss SA organisation a reality.

He told Radio 702 of his position: “The only thing that I actually do is I just make them realise their own power.

“I make them realise who they have already been their whole life and just give them the confidence to showcase that to the world.”
