Kaizer Chiefs wonderkid Mfundo Vilakazi is making headlines against the backdrop of his birthday. Thanks to his huge following, the Soweto-born star often trends when he posts or gets posted.
Mfundo Vilakazi, who has made headlines with his flair, turned 19 on Tuesday, 19 November. Against his birthday, the media quickly established that he was born on 19 November 2005.

Taking to the picture-sharing app, the Soweto giants celebrate Mfundo Vilakazi with a warm birthday post.
The club posted, “Happy Birthday, Obrigado! We hope that you will have an amazing day!” Against the post, an Amakhosi fan said, “Happy birthday to our last born.”
Another user commented, “Happy Birthday, Mfundo❤️ May you achieve all your goals and succeed in everything you do.”
However, several fans and players flooded online with warm wishes. Portuguese speaker and Kaizer Chiefs defender Miguel Inacio’s birthday post to starlet Mfundo Vilakazi stole the attention.
The Angolan defender who joined Kaizer Chiefs this year shocked everyone when he expressed his good wishes to the star in isiZulu. This was undoubtedly his first isiZulu post since joining the club.
Miguel shared his photo with Mfundo Vilakazi and captioned it, ‘Okuhle kodwa ngane yakwethu,’ which loosely translates to ‘I wish you all good things, brother.’
His gesture highlights the strong bond he is forging with his new teammates at Kaizer Chiefs, even across language barriers.
CAREER
Mfundo Vilakazi reportedly started his youth career with Zola Seven Stars under Coach Skhumbuzo, affectionately known as Zola 7.
However, little is known about whether the star played for another youth team before settling at Kaizer Chiefs Youth Academy. Mfundo Vilakazi had his shot to fame in 2023; the rest was history.
After being promoted from the Kaizer Chiefs reserve team, Mfundo made his professional debut in February 2024.
In March, he made his second first-team appearance in a Premier Soccer League tie, the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates.
This season, the Soweto-born youngster has opened his goal account. He scored a goal in the opening game against Marumo Gallants.
Kaizer Chiefs went on to win the match 2-1, thanks to the SA junior international’s late strike in a league game.
