Meghan Markle has launched her new Instagram account, marking her return to social media after a five-year hiatus.

The Duchess of Sussex, 43, revealed her account, @meghan, on New Year’s Day, 2025, according to The Economic Times.

MEGHAN MARKLE’S RETURN TO INSTAGRAM

In a short, heartfelt video, filmed by Prince Harry, Meghan ran along a scenic beach near their Montecito, California home.

She stopped to write ‘2025’ in the sand, symbolising a fresh start. Her debut marks a turning point since the couple’s last Instagram activity in March 2020.

The pair then closed their joint @sussexroyal account with a reflective message.

“We are confident that every human being has the potential to make a difference,” they wrote, addressing the challenges of the pandemic.

“Together we can lift each other up to realise the fullness of that promise.”

MEGHAN MARKLE’S ROYAL WEDDING

According to the Cosmopolitan, Meghan had deactivated her personal accounts in January 2018, just before her royal wedding.

After retiring as senior royals in 2020, Meghan and Harry settled in the United States with their two children, Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3.

“I enjoy living [in the U.S.] and bringing my kids up here,” Harry shared in December 2024 at The New York Times’ DealBook Summit.

“It feels as though it’s the life my mum wanted for me.”

Before her personal Instagram debut, Meghan introduced her lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, in March 2024.

The brand’s Instagram account featured only a minimalist logo, teasing future projects.

MEGHAN MARKLE RETURNS TO THE LIMELIGHT

This return to a lifestyle focus hints at Meghan’s desire to reconnect with her roots in wellness and creativity.

South African fans might find the name reminiscent of the Cape’s wine culture, blending wellness with nature.

“By Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex. Established 2024,” reads the bio, signalling her pivot into entrepreneurship.

Meghan remains cautious about social media’s influence.

CARING FOR KIDS

During a mental health panel in October 2023, she admitted concerns about raising children in a digital-heavy world, according to Pink Villa.

“Everyone now is affected by the online world and social media. Some more than others,” she stated. “We all just want to feel safe.”

Harry echoed her sentiments. “For us, the priority is to turn pain into purpose,” he explained, referencing their shared commitment to addressing online harm.

Their worries resonate globally, including in South Africa, where social media has a profound impact on youth and families.

MEGHAN MARKLE ON INSTA

Meghan’s Instagram return signifies more than a simple comeback. It’s a statement of growth, resilience, and her readiness to engage directly with fans again.

Her next steps remain to be seen, but one thing is certain: Meghan’s voice continues to inspire and spark conversation.

SOCIAL IMPACT

With a growing focus on wellness, mental health, and social impact, the Duchess might be redefining influence in the digital age.

With her return, she offers a glimpse of what 2025 holds – a year of possibility, hope, and meaningful connections.
