Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, is setting the record straight. In a recent interview with The New York Times, she addressed accusations of being unreliable.

This is a sentiment that has bubbled up since the premiere of her Netflix series, With Love, Meghan.

MEGHAN MARKLE’S SHOW

The show, which offers a peek into Markle’s life and showcases her cooking, crafting, and hosting skills, has triggered some criticism, according to E News.

Some viewers have called her out for using expensive Le Creuset cookware, deeming it out of touch. “This is a thing in 2025?” she asked, seemingly surprised by the furore.

Markle, however, is quick to remind everyone that her life wasn’t always a fairytale.

Gesturing to her Montecito property, she questioned, “Don’t they know my life hasn’t always been like this?”

MEGHAN MARKLE’S WORK ETHIC

The former Suits actress, who shares Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 3, with Prince Harry, 40, emphasised her strong work ethic.

Before marrying Harry and closing her lifestyle blog, The Tig, she had been working since the age of 13. “I need to work, and I love to work,” Markle explained.

“This is a way I can connect my home life and my work.”

AS EVER

Markle has also been candid about the challenges of launching her lifestyle brand, ‘As Ever’, formerly named American Riviera Orchard.

“There are tons of twists and turns—even with the name,” she told People.

“I appreciate everyone who gave me the grace to make mistakes and figure it out, and also to be forgiving with myself through that. It’s a learning curve.”

Meghan Markle explained the name change in a video posted to the brand’s Instagram page. “Last year, I had thought, ‘American Riviera, that sounds like such a great name.’ It’s my neighbourhood.

MEGHAN MARKLE ON BUSINESS

It’s a nickname for Santa Barbara, but it limited me to things that were just manufactured and grown in this area.”

She added, “As Ever essentially means as it’s always been, and if you’ve followed me since 2014 with The Tig, you know I’ve always loved cooking and crafting and gardening—this is what I do.”

The Duchess shared some heartwarming anecdotes about her family life. She revealed that her love for making preserves was inspired by the vines in her Montecito garden, according to Elle.

COOKING WITH HER CHILDREN

Meghan Markle fondly remembers her grandmother making apple butter and now cherishes the tradition with her children.

“But I think my kids will now connect this to coming home from school and smelling the sweetness that wafts through the house when you are slow-cooking fruit.

‘There she is. Oh, Mom’s making some preserves again.’”

Even little Lili gets involved. “Lili and I made this batch together,” Markle said, serving strawberry preserve in one episode. “She picked all those berries with me, and then she’s like, ‘No, no, mama. I’ll do it.’ And she wants to try.

PRINCE HARRY IN THE KITCHEN

She’s like, ‘I’ll stir it. I’ll mash it.’ Great. And then you keep the hot stuff away and go ahead and pour it in. But she’s proud. That part feels good.”

Prince Harry also gets a chance to shine in the kitchen. “H is a great cook,” Meghan Markle shared, calling her husband by his nickname.

“He makes great breakfast.”

Meghan Markle playfully teases Prince Harry’s seasoning habits, noting, “Before tasting any meal, my husband puts salt on it.”

TRANSFORMATION AND REINVENTION

Meghan Markle shared memories of her childhood, including her time as a Girl Scout. “I was a Girl Scout for so many years,” she said.

“I started as a Daisy, which is when you’re 5 or 6, and I sold a lot of cookies. My mom was troop leader—Troop 949.” She also fondly recalled her first job at an ice cream shop at the age of 13.

Markle’s journey has been one of transformation and reinvention. She has been a Hollywood actress, a royal, and now a media personality and entrepreneur.

As she navigates the complexities of modern life, she remains focused on her family, her work, and staying true to herself.
