Patrick Maswanganyi scored an injury time winner to give Orlando Pirates all the three points against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday afternoon.
Relebohile Mofokeng was fouled by Njabulo Blom in the 94th minute which saw the referee point to the spot. ‘Tito’ stepped up and made it 1-0 with a panenka penalty to give the Buccaneers all the three points at the FNB Stadium.
Orlando Pirates win another Derby
Coming into match, Pirates needed all the three points to keep their title aspiration alive. Despite a positive start, the current MTN8 champions failed to convert their chances.
Amakhosi looked sharp in defence and looked deadly during counter attacks. Pule Mmodi and Ranga Chivaviro looked lively but could not give their side the lead.
In the second half, Orlando Pirates pushed with Deon Hotto troubling the Chiefs defence. Just when it looked the match will finish goaless, the Buccaneers produced one last attack. Mofokeng managed to get past Blom but fired wide. The referee stepped in and awarded a penalty. Replay shows that the young winger was grabbed by the Chiefs midfielder.
Maswangany scoted from the spot to give Orlando Pirates another Soweto Derby win.
Was that a penalty?
