Margaret Gardiner named Miss Universe judge

South Africa’s own beauty queen , Margaret Gardiner has been named a judge at the Miss Universe pageant, set to take place in Mexico 16 November. 

The former titleholder – who won in 1978 –  was coincidentally crowned in the country.

Over 130 countries, including our own Mia Le Roux, will participate.

SA’S MARGARET GARDINER BECOMES MISS UNIVERSE JUDGE

In a social media post, Miss Universe organisers revealed that Margaret Gardiner was the latest judge to join the panel.

The pageant said of the 65-year-old: “Her elegance, experience, and knowledge in the entertainment and beauty industry make her an iconic and respected figure in the world of international beauty. Her legacy inspires a new generation of women”.

Margaret-  SA’s first Miss Universe – responded: “This is such a huge honour! Im so excited to return to the country where I was crowned to participate in this year’s event. I cant wait!”

Despite winning Miss Universe more than four decades ago, Margaret is no stranger to the spotlight.

Based in the US, the former beauty queen works as an entertainment reporter in Hollywood. She also regularly mixes in celeb circles and always scores an invite to the hottest parties and award shows on the calendar.

WILL BONANG BE NAMED AS HOST?

Meanwhile, South Africans are hoping that media darling and fan favourite Bonang Matheba will be named as Miss Universe host.

This after inundating pageant owner Anne Jakrajutatip, or Anne JKN, with their requests.
