Mamelodi Sundowns to bid for Basadien but Chiefs not done

Mamelodi Sundowns are set to make a massive bid for Stellenbosch FC star Fawaaz Basadien.

The left back has been a key figure at the Cape Winelands based side. Basadien’s on field exploits this season have made him one of South Africa’s top football talents. In 45 appearances across all competitions, he has scored seven goals and delivered eight assists. His ability to combine attacking flair with defensive solidity has been pivotal for Stellenbosch, contributing to several clean sheets.

Now according to reports, Basadien is on his way to the Betway Premiership champions Masandawana. But we know Kaizer Chiefs has been admiring him for a long time, and even made another attempt in January which was not accepted.

Latest on Chiefs connection to Basadien

The latest is that Chiefs will hold out until the end but are also making provision for alternatives like Nkanyiso Shinga, who plays for FC Alverca in Portugal.

“The latest left back they are monitoring is (Nkanyiso)Shinga but to convince him to leave Portugal will take a lot, as his team was promoted to the top flight,” the source told The South African.

“The only good thing is that his contract is coming to an end this season. But what I’m hearing is that he is an important player for them. Also they might offer him a new contract. That’s why they still have hope to sign Basadien, even though they know going up against Sundowns in a bidding war will be difficult.”

Other alternatives at left back

However, if KaboYellow do capture the former Swallows fullback. Then players like Terrence Mashego at Mamelodi Sundowns and Divine Lunga might be an option for Kaizer Chiefs as well.

Who will Fawaaz Basadien sign for? Chiefs or Sundowns?
