Mamelodi Sundowns are in pursuit of their eighth PSL in a row.
They have been so dominant that they’ve cleared second place by at least 16 points in the previous four seasons.
The last campaign saw them finish 23 points ahead of the following best Orlando Pirates – this year could be different, however.
The Brazilians suffered a rare early season defeat against Polokwane City, demoting them to second on the log, three points behind the Buccaneers.
The hunt is on, and you’d be a fool to count Masandawana out; the season is still young, and the Pirate’s form could fizzle out, but for now, it seems destined to go the distance.
There will be no twenty-point gap this season (I hope).

Days before loosing to Polokwane City, Manqoba Mngqithi questioned the Buccaneers ability to challenge late into the season, wondering whether they have the depth to do so.
“I think I said it from the beginning in the launch that for me they are the team that’s going to be really pushing us,” the Sundowns’ manager told FARPost.
“I hope and pray they do have the depth to carry themselves during the group stages and the league because I think that’s where the separation will take place because I do believe they are a very good team.
“They tried to rotate the squad, unfortunately it did not work out very well in the Carling. But honestly speaking I think they are a team that will really pose a lot of problems.
“But I still maintain that they are a team that doesn’t do well against small teams. So far, they have really done well but let’s continue and see because that’s where I think maybe the championship will be decided.”
