The worst kept secret is now officially out in the public as Mamelodi Sundowns announce the signing of Jayden Adams.
Adams is set to add to the plethora of attacking talent already at the disposal of Sundowns going forward.
Bafana star a long-term Sundowns target
Adams was subject of intense speculation from Sundowns in the previous window. However, after losing key players in Iqraam Rayners and Deano van Rooyen Stellenbosch were reluctant to let him go. It is believed that a bid of up to R30 million was put on the table to try and entice the player to join the Brazilians. This time however, this publication reported that the two clubs have now reached an agreement for his services. All that was missing was an agreement on the player’s personal terms. That was not expected to be a problem, however.
And it certainly wasn’t, as Sundowns took to their social media platforms to official confirm the signing of Adams.
“𝙒𝙀𝙇𝘾𝙊𝙈𝙀 𝘼𝘿𝘼𝙈𝙎
Bafana Bafana international, Jayden Adams has joined the Home of the 14-times Champions on a 3.5-year deal!
Let’s welcome our new man in the comments!” Wrote the Sundowns on their official ‘X’ page.
Adams signing from Stellenbosch finally confirmed
This will come as big news for Sundowns, who have been chasing Adams for a while. Already having a midfield packed with quality, he is set to compete with a few of his international teammates. He could play with or replace the likes of Teboho Mokoena, Bathusi Aubaas and the versatile Aubrey Modiba. Also vying for those midfield positions would be will be Marcelo Allende, Siphelele Mkhulise and Lebogang Maboe.
Adams will not be able to play for Sundowns in the CAF Champions League, however, as he is cup-tied. This comes after he played in the Confederation Cup for Stellenbosch. He can, however, look forward to representing his new side in the league, Nedbank Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.
