EFF leader Julius Malema says his party is ready to join the Government of National Unity (GNU) once the alliance between the ANC and DA falls apart.
“Fighters, don’t be in a hurry, we are just waiting patiently to enter government soon. Once Helen Zille is out, we are coming into the Government of National Unity. We are ready to govern and let’s go prepare to take over government in 2026,” Malema said.
He was speaking on Sunday on the final day of the EFF’s third National People’s Assembly at Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg. Delegates from across the country gathered to elect new party leaders for the next five years and to prepare for the 2026 local elections.
Malema urged members to start rebuilding local structures, wards, and regions to strengthen the party ahead of the elections.
He also claimed the GNU is unlikely to last long, warning that ANC members might remove President Cyril Ramaphosa if he doesn’t sign the Basic Education Laws Amendment (BELA) Bill into law.
“If he is not removed now, he will be removed in 2027, and a new president elected on a new ticket of anti-GNU will be elected. Even their party president was singing against the GNU. The person who will be elected will be anti-GNU,” he said.
Malema added that the EFF would take to the streets if Ramaphosa fails to sign the BELA Bill.
“We are not going to be threatened by AfriForum or anyone wearing orange saying we must not implement the BELA Bill Act. The act will be implemented. No one is going to be excluded from a government school based on the colour of their skin or language,” he said.
He also spoke about the EFF’s plans to build a state-of-the-art school.
“Anything found in a white school will be implemented, including a swimming pool. We have already informed the Chinese embassy that we will be knocking on their door for funds to help build the school,” Malema said.
