The Red Berets paid tribute to their leader in several social media posts.

“Your unwavering commitment to the struggle for economic freedom, your fearless confrontation to the enemies of black dignity, and your tireless fight against inequality continue to inspire generations.

“The oppressed masses appreciate your leadership, and history will remember your contribution to dismantling the systems that seek to keep black people in subjugation,” the party said.

Social media was also abuzz with birthday wishes and messages to Juju from EFF members, their families, South African public figures and other African leaders.

Accompanied by the party’s top brass, Malema spent his day at the Tembisa Child and Family Welfare Society which accepts abandoned, abused, lost, neglected and orphaned children.

After the birthday celebrations, Malema told journalists that the welfare society needs support as it operates 24/7 and although his donation is like a drop in the ocean, he is hopeful that it will be able to solve some of the issues in the non-profit organisation.

“It’s important to celebrate this day with the less fortunate, including abandoned children, to show them love and to remind them that not all is lost, they are still being loved and that there’s still someone who loves them.

“Mama Velemina in particular has taken care of them for a very long time and we’re all following in her footsteps to help those who cannot help themselves,” he said.

Later on the day, Malema celebrated his birthday with his family and close friends, including Gauteng MEC for Finance Lebogang Maile, EFF deputy president Godrich Gardee, the party’s members of Parliament Sihle Lonzi, Sixolise Gcilishe and Vuyani Pambo among others.
