Richards Bay FC goalkeeper Salim Magoola has revealed why he elected to remain at the club despite interest from a handful of clubs both domestically and abroad.

Kaizer Chiefs, SuperSport United, AmaZulu FC and Chippa United were reportedly keeping an eye on his situation as his contract neared its conclusion.

Additionally, two Tanzanian clubs, Simba SC and Azam FC, were also rumoured to be after his services.

The 29-year-old goalkeeper put an end to the speculation by signing a new two-year contract just before the season began.

In an exclusive interview, Magoola explained that his decision to stay was influenced by his efforts in helping the club retain its top-flight status.

MAGOOLA ON WHY HE ELECTED TO STAY PUT AT RICHARDS BAY FC

“Personally, it’s a great pleasure to be here at Richards Bay because knowing that the whole season we’re building a team and a family together and it feels at home,” Magoola told FARPost.

“I feel that it’s very safe when I’m with the team. And it was really, really a good idea, not only for me, for my family, friends and everyone close to me suggested that I stay around the club because we fought hard for it to stay up.

“And I really feel good, I feel at peace whenever I’m around the club, around the players because now we are like a family, a bond which we’re trying build is big in South African football as a Richards Bay family.”

Despite attracting interest from other clubs, Magoola believes that last season was his worst in his career and is determined to improve this campaign.

“It was my worst season I think in football. Yeah, last year it was tough and I’m looking forward to build my CV again and try this season to make sure I get more clean sheet, help the team reach its targets,” he added.
