Kaizer Chiefs have slipped down to 100th in Africa and are not in the top five ranked South African teams according to Footballdatabase.com.
Amakhosi have been poor over the years and are yet to win any silverware in 10 years. With the African Football League (AFL) set to return next season, it seems very unlikely that Chiefs would be invited. The tournament is expanding from eight teams to 24.
Despite dominating South African football in the 80s, 90s and early 2000s, Kaizer Chiefs have never made a mark in Africa. The continent’s biggest club competition (CAF Champions League) has largely featured Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates. Both teams have won the competition once but have reached the knockout stages several times
Amakhosi on the other hand, only reached the final in 2021 but lost out to Al Ahly. Having failed to finish in the top three in the past four seasons, it seems unlikely that the Glamour Boys will play continental football soon.
Kaizer Chiefs Not Recognised in Africa, ranked 945 in the World
According to Footballdatabase.com, Al Ahly are Africa’s top-ranked team followed by Sundowns. Orlando Pirates climbed to 11th following their impressive CAF CL campaign this season.
With the AFL scheduled for next season, both Sundowns and Pirates are almost guaranteed to feature with maybe Stelleboch being another SA team.
In South Africa alone, Kaizer Chiefs are ranked eight, which ironically is the exact position they currently find themselves in the Betway Premiership. It remains to be seen if the Soweto giants will improve in their last eight matches of the season.
