HONEYMOON MURDER?

On 13 November 2010, Anni and Shrien Dewani were allegedly hijacked in their hired taxi while sightseeing in Gugulethu. The couple were on honeymoon in Cape Town during an evening out.

According to Shrien, who wed Anni just two weeks earlier, hijackers Mziwamadoda Qwabe and Xolile Mngeni robbed him of valuables. They forced both him and the driver and tour guide, Zola Tonga, out of their moving vehicle.

The next day, Anni’s body – with a single gunshot wound to her neck – was found in the VW Sharan.

However, in court proceedings, all three men shocked the public when they claimed that they were hired as part of a premeditated murder plan by Shrien.

The men pled guilty to murder and were given sentences ranging from 18 to 25 years imprisonment.

Shrien Dewani – who had returned to the UK – was extradited to South Africa in 2014 and faced charges of orchestrating the kidnapping and murder of his bride.

However, he was acquitted of all charges due to a lack of evidence. He has maintained his innocence.

According to judge Jeanette Traverso, this was due to “many mistakes, lies, and inconsistencies” in the three men’s allegations against Dewani.

WHERE IS SHRIEN DEWANI NOW?

After being acquitted of Anni’s murder, Shrien Dewani has kept a low profile both in public and on social media.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Shrien is based in London, where he is the director of Evolve Care Group, a nursing and care home. The company has eight branches around the UK.

He sporadically posts on his account about his business, as well as his blog.

Shrien also has a Facebook account, where he has shared several interesting posts, including one that claims he is “not guilty.” His X account has been set to private mode.

Although he has never remarried, in 2018, he was linked to a male lover, Brazilian-born photographer Gledison Lopez Martins. The couple travelled to India, where Shrien had married Anni years before.

According to the Hinocha family, Shrien – now 44 years old – allegedly masked his homosexuality by marrying Anni. Her father, father Vinod, told MailOnline at the time: ‘He kept his gay secret from my daughter and from her family. How could he have had it in his heart to do that? It was an utter disgrace.”
