Both sides had multiple chances to pick up the full three points throughout the match, but failed to find the back of the net during the regulation 90 minutes.

However, deep into injury time, Orlando Pirates were awarded a penalty which Patrick Maswanganyi expertly converted to give the Buccaneers the win and move them three points behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

Kaizer Chiefs remained fifth in the standings, nine points adrift of their Soweto arch-rivals having played three more matches.

Amakhosi will next be in action on Tuesday, 4 February when they host AmaZulu at 19:30.

Meanwhile, the Buccaneers’ next league assignment is an away fixture against Sekhukhune United on Wednesday, 5 February, also at 19:30.
