Magesi FC head coach Clinton Larsen wants the story of a former defender at the club, Khuliso Mudau, to serve as an inspiration to their players.

The Bafana Bafana international Mudau spent the 2016/17 season at Magesi while they were still campaigning in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. This was before his move to Black Leopards, where he made a name for himself in the PSL.

It is at Leoaprds where he made an impression with his ability to defend and attack, and he went on to join Mamelodi Sundowns in 2020.

The 29-year-old has since established himself as one of the best right-backs in the country and is now a regular at Bafana Bafana and Sundowns.

HOW KHULISO MUDAU’S JOURNEY SINCE HIS DAYS AT MAGESI FC CAN SERVE AS AN INSPIRATION FOR MAGESI FC PLAYERS

“I always hear that [Khuliso] Mudau from Sundowns played for Magesi. Look where he is today. He is arguably the best right back in the league,” said Larsen.

“He made a move from a small club like Magesi, and it’s an opportunity for others to do the same. Your performance speaks volumes for you, and hopefully, some of our boys by the end of the season will be spoken about and can also get good moves to take their careers forward.”

CLINTON LARSEN FEELS THEY HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE AS THEY GEAR FOR THE CARLING KNOCKOUT QUARTER-FINALS

Magesi are set to take on TS Galaxy in the quarter-finals of the Carling Knockout at Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga on Sunday, 3 November 2024

Larsen says the stage is a perfect opportunity for the players to market themselves to big teams in the SA elite league.

“Whatever we achieve in the Cup will be a bonus. Everybody knows our priority is to keep the team up [avoid relegation back to the second-tier league],” he said ahead of the match.

“So if we go to the semi-finals, it will be a bonus. I think it’s an opportunity once again to enjoy football. To use the occasion and showcase their talent so that players can market themselves as well.”
