DJ Lamiez opens up about her childhood

Lamiez Holworthy recently opened up about her difficult childhood, revealing painful experiences of discrimination within her own family.

Speaking on a podcast, the DJ and media personality shared how her mother was forced to choose between her and her Indian family, who rejected them.

“My mom had to choose between having me and her family. It was terrible. They wrote my mom off. I was the black sheep,” she said. She recalled being ostracized for her appearance and even subjected to hurtful rumors. “They would tell people that I was a product of rape. I first heard it from my Indian cousin.”

Despite this, Holworthy credits her mother, who is also her manager, for giving her a loving and stable home.

“My mom raised me with so much love that I could not tell a difference between myself and my siblings.”

Her family faced further struggles when her mother was retrenched, shattering Holworthy’s dream of studying entertainment law in New York.

“The municipality would come and switch our lights off. We’d sit in the dark for weeks,” she recalled.

Now successful, Holworthy believes her struggles shaped her. “I wouldn’t be who I am if I didn’t know what it’s like not to have.”
