Durban – The National Freedom Party (NFP) wants the IFP to hand over the Zululand district municipality so their leader can get bodyguards and a blue light vehicle like other party chiefs. At a GPU meeting at Durban Manor Hotel on Sunday, NFP treasurer Xolani Sibiya said leader Ivan Barnes missed the meeting because he was stuck in traffic in his Toyota Corolla. “This would have been avoided if the IFP was fair enough to give us the Zululand district municipality and make Barnes a mayor,” he said.
Umgababa – Sadtu KZN secretary Nomarashiya Caluza confronted President Cyril Ramaphosa about his delay in signing parts of the Bela Bill. One part deals with whether the school governing bodies or the provinces can decide on the language of instruction – a clause believed to be targeting Afrikaans-language schools. Ramaphosa said this section and one other need more talks until December.
Mpumalanga – Police are hunting Mpiyakhe Thobani Mbatha, 25, for killing Fredville Taxi Association chair Mphilisi Ngubane and trying to kill his twin. The shooting happened on Shezi Main Road on 13 September. Anyone with information can call Sergeant Khuyana on 079 490 8250.
