Durban: The Democratic Alliance in eThekwini has written to the South African Human Rights Commission and the Public Protector to request an urgent investigation into the recent neglect of eThekwini flood victims. This was announced by DA eThekwini caucus leader Thabani Mthethwa on Monday. Mthethwa says the vulnerable residents, many of them women and children, were evicted from shelters and forced to sleep on the streets. The party said this is a human rights violation and it cannot go unanswered. Meanwhile, the Department of Human Settlements in KZN has announced the refurbishment of the Montclair Lodge to house flood victims.

uMkhuze: Traditional Affairs MEC Rev. Thulasizwe Buthelezi has announced the appointment of Bamba Ndwandwe as the new administrator of uMkhanyakude District Municipality. During the announcement made in uMkhuze on Monday, Buthelezi described Ndwandwe as a seasoned local government veteran with extensive experience working with various municipalities across the province. He assumed his duties on 1 July and will serve as the ministerial representative. His primary focus will be to stabilise the municipality and develop a comprehensive turnaround plan to address the issues that led to the municipality being placed under administration.

Inanda: The National Prosecuting Authority in KwaZulu-Natal welcomes the Durban High Court’s decision to impose a life sentence on Philani Siyabonga Ndwandwe after the state took his 2023 rape sentence on appeal. Between July 2018 and April 2020, Ndwandwe contacted complainants on Facebook and promised them employment. He would then meet each of the complainants at a specified location in the Amaoti and Congo areas, where he would accompany them further. En route, he would force them into a bush and rob them at knifepoint and rape them.
