It seems like the relationship break-up train did not stay in 2024, as there are reports that the Zulu King Misuzulu ka Zwelithini faces a messy divorce with his first wife, Queen Ntokozo KaMayisela Zulu.

According to The Citizen, King Misuzulu and his first wife tied the knot in 2021 after he inherited the throne. The publication further cites that cultural expert Prof. Musa Xulu said another marriage is on the cards for the Zulu King in February.

Speaking to the publication, Musa said: “The King is said to be getting married to another woman later this month or in February.”

News publication, African Times reported that King Misuzulu filed the divorce quietly at the Pietermaritzburg High Court in KwaZulu-Natal. The publication claims to have seen the divorce papers and said that in the papers filed, the Zulu emperor detailed the ‘irretrievable breakdown of the marriage.’

“The marriage relationship between the plaintiff and the defendant has reached such a state of disintegration that there is no reasonable prospect for the restoration of a normal marriage between the parties in that: The parties have on several occasions experienced trouble with their marriage and tried to restore the relationship without success.

“The parties have not lived together as husband and wife for a continuous period of at least one year immediately prior to the date of the institution of the action,” read King Misuzulu’s part of the affidavit.

The affidavit also revealed that the Zulu King has offered to pay R20 000 towards the monthly maintenance of the Queen for a year, starting from the day the divorce is finalised in court. The papers further state that the duo has already divided some of their belongings.
