While South Africa digests the news of Anele Mdoda’s alleged ‘secret wedding’, social commentator and best-selling author Khaya Dlanga has become the target of some backlash as internet users call him out for breaking the news before Anele could do it herself.

It appears that remaining aloof and mysterious about one’s relationship, only to pop out with an “off the market” post on social media, revealing a successful day of nuptials, has become the go-to method to announce getting married for some of mzansi’s more popular and notable names. Merely weeks after former Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi pulled off this stunt, Anele has taken a page from her book as it has been reported that the media personality recently tied the knot with Xhosa royalty Bonelela ‘Buzz’ James, despite the public being in the dark about any romantic connection in her life.

You may wonder where this exciting news comes from, since both Anele and Bonelela’s social media contain no trace of a wedding ceremony. Well, that would be incredible work of social commentator Khanya, who took to his Instagram to congratulate the couple on a successful ceremony with a caption that read “Bamkelwa ke abayeni kwaMdoda. Itshatile itshomi yam!” (The relatives of the groom were welcomed to the Mdoda homestead. My friend is a married woman!)

Who needs haters when you have friends like Khaya is what some internet users have said, as they believe Khaya mistakenly revealed the news before the couple was ready to go public with them. Although seemingly done with no ill intent, users have labelled Khaya the kind of friend you keep a secret until the very last minute, as he tends to be a bit open and chatty, even with information that others would rather keep subtle. According to these users, Khaya came in the way of Anele’s big announcement moment when he posted about the wedding before the couple.
