Saxophone superstar Kenny G was thoroughly amused at the revelation that South Africans not only adored him but also enlisted him as their unofficial wedding performer.
The multi-Grammy-winning artist will perform in the country in three provinces later this year.
Tickets are officially on sale.
KENNY G AMUSED BY SOUTH AFRICAN FANS
In a casual chat with Smile FM, Kenny G – known for his curly hair and jazzy saxophone tunes – was let in on a national secret.
Host Phil de Lange said: “Your music is used at weddings and family functions, specifically when people are waiting for the food to arrive.”
When asked if he was aware of it, the 68-year-old musician laughed and asked, “So, not when they’re walking down the aisle?”
He also asked: “Do my songs help with the appetite or something?”
Beaming, Kenny G continued: “I did not know that, and you know, it makes me smile. I’m happy to know that”.
In the comments section of a TikTok video posted by Phil, South Africans were also amused:
GuranR commented: “The biryani tastes better with Kenny G playing in the background!” while That Auntie posted: “Kenny G needs to see some people’s wedding videos to understand. He is such an important part of our culture”.
The curly-haired star – whose full name is Kenny Gorelick – is known for his hit songs like Songbird, Forever in Love, and Sentimental.
THIRD TIME’S THE CHARM
Kenny G will be performing in South Africa in 2025 for the third time. He last toured the country in 1998 and 2014.
He said in his concert announcement: “It’s been way too long since our last visit to South Africa. We had an incredible time performing for such a warm and passionate audience.
“We are really looking forward to finally coming back to share our music with all of you again.”
