Gillian Pillay, the South African police officer spotted during the Joslin Smith trafficking trial, has gone viral on TikTok for her resemblance to the missing girl’s mother, Kelly Smith.

The blonde-haired cop has even claimed that her appearance in the high-profile court case has made her “famous”.

Following the sentencing of Kelly Smith, SAPS Constable Gillian Pillay posted a clip on her TikTok account, where she also doubles as a lifestyle content creator.

Teasing the lookalike rumours, the blonde cop shared a “POV” that read: “Is there no other police woman who can sit behind Kelly?”.

Gillian has been spotted accompanying Kelly in and out of the courtroom and even consoled her during times of her emotional breakdowns.

In the comments section, Gillian – who describes herself as a “fitness freak” – liked comments praising her for diligent work. However, when one critic accused her of using Kelly Smith to become “famous”, she clapped back: “My work made me famous. Get your facts right!”.

In another TikTok, Gillian shared a clip of her embracing Western Cape High Court Judge Nathan Erasmus who delivered his sentence on Thursday. Gillian revealed that the judge had given her a special “certificate of appreciation” during the trial.

She captioned the video: “Was a great honour to work with the community of Saldanha.”

Referring to Kelly Smith receiving a life sentence, she added: “Thank you, Judge Erasmus. Justice was served. You are one in a million. You made sure our child’s voice was heard.”

‘NOT HER SISTER’

On social media, Gillian Pillay has been incorrectly referred to as Kelly Smith’s “sister.” Both women are light-skinned and have blonde hair.

She has repeatedly shut down the commentary.

In one video post, she told her followers, “Kelly and I are not related. I don’t know her…I don’t know where Joslin is.”

She added: “Why would the police put Kelly’s sister with her on national TV?

Meanwhile, Kelly Smith’s real sister, Mickeyla Daniels, is also a policewoman who has gained popularity on TikTok.

Also sporting dyed blonde hair, the constable – who testified in court – has distanced herself from her half-sibling.

She said on her social media account: “We are angry and hurt…. I have forgiven her. But that doesn’t mean what she has done is right. I hope and pray that her heart will help her be honest and tell us where Joslin is. The family and the rest of the world want to know what happened and where Joslin is.”
