According to multiple entertainment sources, Drag Race South Africa, which is mzansi’s take on the popular RuPaul’s Drag Race has been greenlit for production and the streets are already buzzing with excitement and anticipation. Upon the announcement, South Africans have made it clear that they want to see Somizi as far away from this project as possible.
World of Wonder, an American production company has announced that they will be bringing Drag Race South Africa to our TV screens and according to the media house, the casting for the show is set to take place in 2025.

Although the excitement for the show is there worry and concern are more prevalent among internet users, as some are concerned about the quality of racers that will be participating in the show. The users feel as though unlike America and the West, Mzansi might fall short in terms of finding the appropriate queens.
Other users, which seems to echo the opinion of the majority, have made it clear that they do not want Somizi playing any part in the show, whether as a judge, contestant or host. Users cite Somizi’s history of violence and abuse as the main reason, while some long for new and fresh faces on their screens.
Some users have stated that they will not even be tuning in, should Somizi be involved.
Hey @WorldOfWonder and @wowpresentsplus
Just to be clear. If Somizi is the host of this show, I promise you we won’t be watching. https://t.co/FLjn5RMbNi

If Somizi is involved – I’m not watching. Tired of the poster child for nonsense being at the forefront https://t.co/1bvW1bV0q4

I need the host and main judge of Drag Race South Africa to be a drag queen or a femme queen and that person must NOT be Somizi.

Alternatively, there have been a few names that have been consistently popping up to potentially be part of the show, such as Manilla von Tees, Siv Ngesi, Starlet and Lelowhatsgood.
Manilla von Teez for host! Please don’t make Somizi the host! Scarlet can be a judge, not a host – she’s too quiet for the job. Rich Mnisi would also make a great judge – he has already dressed DR queens like Symone and Gigi. https://t.co/yJZJloWJR5

This announcement is an incredibly significant moment for the LGBTQIA+ community as this will allow a specific group to fully be themselves and be embraced by the community at large.
