Sundowns are one of the teams in the PSL following the new trend of giving a lot of youngsters an opportunity to play after impressing in the DStv Diski Challenge [DDC].

In the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season, young talents like Malibongwe Khoza, Asekho Tiwani, Siyabonga Mabena and Kutlwano Letlhaku have all been given some opportunities to play and showcase their talent by Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi.

The centre-back has had his fair chance to play after featuring in five matches in all competitions. He has helped the Chloorkop-based side keep four clean sheets and found the back of the net once in the process.

The young Khoza was handed his debut in a 4-0 victory in the CAF Champions League encounter against Eswatini side Mbabane Swallows in the early stages of the campaign. Khoza started the game and scored.

“Firstly, it’s never easy to break into a Mamelodi Sundowns team, especially when you are a youngster and you are lacking some experience,” said Kannemeyer.

“For him to have those few minutes, it means a lot. It shows that the coaches have seen something they like about the boy.

“I think he will be a good defender in future; he has a bright future; he just has to continue developing. That’s the only way that he can improve and become a better player.

“What I have seen so far is impressive. He has the height, he’s good on the ball, he’s confident, and he’s good at decision-making.”
