Kaizer Chiefs are keen to bring a foreign-based stylish local midfielder back to South Africa. Can they pull the deal off?
Chiefs turn to Le Roux for midfield stability
Former SuperSport United and Stellenbosch midfield schemer Luke Le Roux is reportedly a target for Kaizer Chiefs. The 26-year-old Bafana man plies his trade for Swedish outfit Värnamo.
“Even if we say they have the money to bring him back home like they did in the past with players like Bernard Parker, Tshepo Masilela or even Keagan Dolly, it will all depend on the player himself whether he wants to come back home or not,” an insider told Soccer Laduma.
“It will be interesting to see what happens with him in January and Chiefs are crossing their fingers to at least sign a player that both management and the technical team agree upon.”
Who is Like Le Roux?
24-year-old Luke Le Roux has five caps for the national team. It’s a modest tally and can be explained by a club career which has been spent abroad in recent years. Le Roux moved to Sweden from SuperSport United in 2020 to spend three years with Varbergs BoIS. From there he enjoyed a short stint in the Netherlands with Volendam. The stylish all-action midfield player is now back in Sweden with Värnamo.
Kaizer Chiefs Dream XI with six new signings
Ntwari; Solomons, Miguel, Dortley, Basadien; Cele, Shabalala, Salum; Tau, Mayele, Appollis.
Stellies left-back Fawaaz Basadien is a long-term target although it’ll take a massive offer to tempt the Winelands side to sell. They’ve already let go of the likes of Iqraam Rayners and Deano van Rooyen in recent windows. Thabo Cele was strongly linked with the club in 2023 and has recently admitted to homesickness after a stint in Russia. Can the former Bafana enforcer make a move back to South Africa? Could Le Roux force his way into this conversation?
Would Luke Le Roux be a smart acquisition for Chiefs in their midfield?
