Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly upping the ante in landing Azam midfielder Feisal Salum.
The Tanzanian giants have priced the 27-year-old at R180 million. Ironically, he recently rejected a contract extension, making him a free agent in the offseason, which would nullify the club’s asking price.
“Informal talks between Chiefs and Azam have already started, but as you know, until an offer has been submitted, there’ll be denials all over. But what I can tell you is that talks have indeed started,” a source confirmed.
“Football is business, Azam may say now that they’re not willing to sell, but they know that they’ll have to sell if the player doesn’t want to renew his contract. They won’t want to risk losing him for free.”
Salum-Nabi reunion?
According to reports, Salum is eager for new challenges following a substantial stint in the Tanzanian Premier League, which he won twice under the leadership of Nasreddine Nabi during their time at Young Africans.
On paper, a Salum-Nabi reunion would be a win-win; the midfielder gets to secure his future at one of Africa’s biggest clubs, Kaizer Chiefs, while the Tunisian coach finally gets the experienced midfielder he’s been looking for. George Matlou might be heading out the door after all.
“Feisal Salum has made his decision and informed the club that he will not extend his contract,” Africafoot.com reported.
“He is enjoying his experience at Azam, a big club, but he wants to explore new opportunities at the end of the season,
“A move to Kaizer Chiefs? It is still too early to say for sure, but it is a very serious possibility.”
