Kaizer Chiefs to ‘benefit from CAF’ unlike Sundowns and Pirates

Kaizer Chiefs look rejuvenated this season and that can only mean bad news for Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Soweto giants are in the hunt for their first silverware in nearly a decade. Under Tunisian coach Nasreddine Nabi, Amakhosi look like they might finally end their trophy drought this season. Three wins from four matches can only point the team in the right direction.

Chiefs need Pirates and Sundowns to slip up

Both Pirates and Sundowns are involved in this year’s CAF Champions League. The tournament is gruelling and demands a lot from players, especially in the group phase. Masandawana have managed to find balance over the years but still fell short in the Champions League.

In the past years, the Brazilians dominated the league with ease and often won the title with five or so games remaining. This year, however, they are up against the Mighty Bucs, who occupy first place in the Betway Premiership

How can Amakhosi benefit?

The CAF games will affect Sundowns and Pirates’ momentum in the league and that might allow Chiefs to enter the title race. Nabi’s men have played fewer matches and have more than enough time to rest, practice and get their squad fit. That will also depend on the club’s form, especially in the second half of the season.

If Kaizer Chiefs can keep winning games and stay within three points from Sundowns and Pirates, they might benefit later in the season. Time will tell if Nabi and his boys will keep up with the big boys.

Can Chiefs fight for the title?
