Kaizer Chiefs target goalscoring machine

Kaizer Chiefs hope to sign 30-year-old striker Michael Olunga.

The Kenyan international, who has played in La Liga, Japan’s J1 League and now in the Qatar Stars League, has been prolific in front of goal, scoring 192 goals in his 255-game career.

This season has been no different, bagging seven goals in Al-Duhail SC’s opening six league games.

Nabi’s dream signing

Olunga would be the ultimate signing for Nasreddine Nabi who has been public about ‘needing strikers’, telling FARPost, “Our squad has a lot of quality players. But I don’t think this is going to be the final squad. We are working on getting new players,”

“A big club like Kaizer Chiefs needs a high level of quality in all lines: in defence, middle and attack. You know it’s easier to look for a defender than a striker.

“If you need top players, you need to take your time. We continue with my staff and the committee to look for players,” he added.

“So, you would need time to work hard to profile players. We work together to profile players in defence as I don’t have this opportunity for attack.

“We will continue with my staff committee to look. I need the strikers, and maybe if we have the wingers.”

However good he is, it seems unrealistic that the Soweto Giants can afford his R114 million price tag, following seven signings over the winter and, according to reports, more to come in the summer.

Kaizer Chiefs drop points

AmaKhosi faithful witnessed their side lose 1-0 to SuperSport United on the weekend having dismantled them 4-0 seven days prior.

Coach Nabi shared his thoughts on the game, “It’s a game we controlled practically the whole game, unfortunately, we created many opportunities but we couldn’t score and the opponent had only one opportunity and they scored it,” he told iDiski Times.

“Our young players need to understand to win a football game you need to put the ball in the net but we believe that it’s a lesson, even if it’s a tough one, we hope we can do better.

“We believe that today the mentality was good, was positive even after conceding the goal, they switched on, we pressed, we pushed hard, especially in the second half,” Nabi said about improvement in mentalities.

“We played higher, put numbers in the box, took shots, made crosses, we believed we could change the game, we want that kind of mentality.”

Do you think Nabi is the right man for Kaizer Chiefs?
