Kaizer Chiefs target a different African star after CAF Champions League showing.

Chiefs are setting their sights on Congolese striker Basiala Agee, with plans to make a move during the January 2025 transfer window. Chiefs recently sent scouts, led by Thembela Maliwa, to observe Agee’s performance in the CAF Champions League clash between his team, AS Maniema Union, and Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

The 25-year-old striker left a lasting impression on the Chiefs’ scouting team, sparking the club’s interest in securing his services when the transfer window reopens.

Impressed by Agee’s performance against Sundowns

According to a source close to Kaizer Chiefs, the club was impressed by Agee’s performance during the CAF Champions League match against Mamelodi Sundowns. Agee’s standout display has placed him on the club’s radar, and Chiefs are reportedly preparing to make a formal offer to his team in January.

“Chiefs scouts were at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Tuesday to watch the player. Tera was there with the Kaizer Chiefs officials. They were impressed. He has been identified as one of the players that could be signed by the club in January,” the insider shared.

If Kaizer Chiefs successfully secure Agee’s signature, he would join his fellow Congolese countryman, Christian Saile Basomboli, at the club. With space to sign foreign players, Chiefs see Agee as a potential key addition to their squad for the 2025 season.

Agee’s arrival could help bolster Chiefs’ attacking options, and with his form under observation, the club is making him a priority for the upcoming transfer window.

Chiefs growing frustration with Saile lack of impact

In contrast, Christian Saile Basomboli’s future at Chiefs has been uncertain. The club initially considered loaning or selling the Congolese striker, who joined from Zambian side Nchanga Rangers in January 2023. While PSL clubs expressed interest, Chiefs have grown frustrated with Saile’s underwhelming performances.

“They have tried to give him a chance and be patient with him. But they are not getting the returns they expected,” an insider revealed. Despite some interest from other clubs, Saile has not delivered the performances that were anticipated when he joined the club.

Chiefs set to part ways with winger

With Saile’s performances falling short, Kaizer Chiefs are now preparing to part ways with the striker. The club’s technical team and management have aligned on the decision, indicating that releasing Saile is becoming an inevitable move. Initially, a loan deal seemed possible, but now it appears that even that option is off the table.

Chiefs are focused on building a stronger squad for 2025, with Agee potentially playing a key role in their attack. The club’s shift away from Saile signals a fresh direction for their forward line in the upcoming season.

The January transfer window is approaching, Kaizer Chiefs’ interest in Basiala Agee intensifies. Chiefs are eager to add the talented Congolese striker to their squad. While their patience with Christian Saile Basomboli is running out. Will Agee make the move to Naturena in 2025? The next few weeks could determine the future of both players.
