Kaizer Chiefs could release some of their senior players to make way for new blood in the coming months.
Amakhosi signed seven players this season but it appears the club might look to add more to their squad in January. According to Soccer Laduma, the Soweto giants are likely to let go of some of their players when their contract runs out in June.
One of the Kaizer Chiefs stars who might leave is experienced midfielder Edson Castillo. The South American is currently out due to injury and is yet to sign a new deal.
“The situation is a bit tricky for Edson (Castillo) now,” an inside told Soccer Laduma. “At first, they had offered to extend his contract but then things changed after his injury, with the player also expressing the desire to leave after his contract runs out. That’s almost the same situation with Ranga (Chivaviro).
Kaizer Chiefs to offload more players in the coming months
“The club had shown an interest to renew his contract at the start of the season but things are changing bit by bit due to his dwindling form at the moment. As for Edmilson Dove and George Matlou, they renewed for one year at the start of the season until June 2025 and it seems that’s the end of the road for them. But the club is busy right now discussing the futures of all these players and by the end of January we would know who is staying and who is going though it’s clear for others,” said a source.
Kaizer Chiefs are next in action this weekend against Polokwane City. The Soweto giants have only won three out of their seven league matches so far.
