Kaizer Chiefs fan favourite Mduduzi Shabalala could be on the move next season.
The 21-year-old midfielder has scored four goals, and assisted twice in 20 matches across all competitions he played this season. He has been easily Amakhosi’s best player this season and under Nasreddine Nabi, Shabalala has shown maturity and often had to rescue the club from a losing position.
His hard work has attracted the attention of several European teams, but it remains unclear whether an offer was made to the Chiefs. The Soweto giants are rebuilding this season and losing a player of his calibre might take them two steps backwards next season.
Kaizer Chiefs fan favourite wanted elsewhere
Two years ago, Shabalala had unsuccessful trials at Belgian club KSV Westerlo but has since become a complete player. At 20, the midfielder is carrying Kaizer Chiefs on his back this season.
Soccer Laduma reported that another European team was interested in the Kaizer Chiefs fan favourite. With only a few months left in his contract, the Glamour Boys risk losing the 21-year-old for free.
“No, it is not the same team. It is a different club altogether but there has been interest from another European club for Mdu (Shabalala),” a source told the publication.
“The club is aware of that but they are not putting pressure on the player as he is enjoying his game at the moment and they are not entertaining any interest from other clubs, as things stand.
“But they are not sure how long they will hold onto him with the form that he is currently on,” the source added.
Shabalala has been a fan favourite at Kaizer Chiefs since making his debut in 2022. It remains to be seen if the youngster will be awarded a lucrative contract before the end od the season.
