Kaizer Chiefs prepare third bid for Cele!

Kaizer Chiefs’ interest in Bafana’s Thabang (Thabo) Cele appears to be reignited.

It was in 2021, under Stuart Baxter’s leadership, when AmaKhosi first tried to sign the dynamic midfielder but failed to sway him from Europe, where he has done stints in Portugal, Poland and Russia.

Three years later, and the Chiefs are reportedly ready to submit their third bid in as many years – third time lucky?

Tau to Chiefs?

Another Kaizer Chiefs playing abroad is Al Ahly’s Percy Tau, who looks likely to leave the club before the start of next season.

“The player (Percy Tau) and the club have a great relationship but the fact that he’s not playing regularly is an issue because he’s a big player who’s on a big contract. Both parties are open to an exit but the numbers have to make sense from everyone concerned. Ahly also want to open a foreign spot in the team and if Tau leaves, they will be able to do that but at this stage, they have not yet reached an agreement. My understanding is that Tau’s camp are holding out for what they believe would be a fair compensation.” said the source.

Ribeiro to Europe?

“What I can tell you is that there is a Championship club in England that is interested in Lucas [Ribeiro Costa],” a Siya source stated.

“They have inquired about him and they are not the only club that have inquired about him. His performances have not gone unnoticed as even his former club in Belgium (Beveren) has asked about him. There is a lot of interest in him.”

“Although there is interest from Europe including that from Burnley FC, but Mamelodi Sundowns are not willing to let him go,

“He is one player that they can fight to keep at all cost. They know the value he brings to the team and the squad and both management and the technical team are happy with his contribution to the team.

“That’s why they want to hold onto him despite the interest from Europe.”
