Kaizer Chiefs part ways with fan favourite

Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly parted ways with Venezuelan midfielder Edson Castillo.

According to FARPost, the two parties decided to separate following a mutual agreement to terminate the player’s contract.

The 31-year-old midfielder was not among the players who travelled to the Netherlands on Thursday night for the pre-season tour. Castillo arrived at Naturena in 2023 under coach Molefi Ntseki, where he impressed and became a fan favourite. In his debut season, he scored five times in 32 appearances; however, that was overshadowed by Amakhosi’s poor season.

Last season, Castillo only made seven appearances for Kaizer Chiefs after suffering a fractured fibula for the majority of the season.

FARPost reported that the midfielder recently signed a one-year extension with an option to renew, but failed to impress the technical team. Castillo now becomes the seventh Kaizer Chiefs player to be released in a couple of weeks. So far, the club has parted ways with Njabulo Blom, Ranga Chivaviro, Mduduzi Mdantsane, Sabelo Radebe, Bongani Sam and Edmilson Dove.

Which players has Kaizer Chiefs signed so far?

Amakhosi have signed striker Flavio Silva, midfielder Ethan Chislett, and left-backs Nkanyiso Shinga. The three players were announced last week.

On Thursday, Kaizer Chiefs confirmed that the former Orlando Pirates duo of Paseka Mako and Thabiso Monyane had joined the club.

Did Chiefs make a mistake by releasing Castillo?
