Today’s Kaizer Chiefs news wrap looks at the club’s pursuit of Asanele Velebayi and several goalkeeper names linked.
Johnson throws shade at Kaizer Chiefs
Despite ending their long trophy drought, ex-interim boss Cavin Johnson believes Kaizer Chiefs didn’t do well enough in the league.
THREE key areas for the club to strengthen its squad
Chiefs take the lead for Velebayi?
According to FARPost, Stellenbosch FC won’t be pursuing Asanele Velebayi as they already have a winger of a similar profile in the shape of Langelihle Phili. Velebayi’s Cape Town Spurs side have been relegated to South Africa’s third tier following a 15th-place finish in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
Toaster to replace Ntwari?
The latest reports indicate that Chiefs are open to selling Rwandan stopper Fiacre Ntwari. That leaves Bruce Bvuma and Brandon Petersen to fight for the gloves while there’s potential in the untried Bontle Molefe. Nigeria and Chippa man Stanley Nwabali is a long-term option, as is the wonderfully named Toaster Nsabata from Zambia’s Zesco United.
Is Johnson’s opinion fair and accurate?
